Young James T. Kirk has a choice to make. Continue on the path of recklessness and self-destruction, or challenge himself to live up to his father’s legacy and make a difference. Young Spock also has a choice. Stay, as expected, in his home world’s revered institution of science, or embrace other cultures, learning alongside humans and non-humans alike. Both choose the latter, and begin their journey at Starfleet Academy.
J.J. Abrams’ STAR TREK is pure fun all around. I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun at the movies. It’s got everything: intense action, great effects, a tight script, comedy, drama, sexiness, good guys, bad guys, purpose, conflict, characters, an origin story and links to a larger saga.
Don’t be put off by the baggage of the name STAR TREK. If all you have is a pop culture awareness of the series, that’s fine. If you’re a hardcore fan of the series, it’s a treat to find all the references to the past (and future). Either way, it's a joy to see younger versions of these iconic characters knock it out of the park.
STAR TREK is a blast.
So what are you waiting for? Go see it!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
